So, I had never heard of Fab Lab until a couple of weeks ago. I would say it's part of the maker movement for machinery geeks (and I mean geeks in the most loving way.) Basically it's a kind of 'open studio' for home made heavy-duty equipment like laser cutters and 3-D printers. Apparently it started at MIT and has spread to cities all over the world.
When I discovered that Munich has a Fab Lab group, and that they were having an event last Monday, I had to check it out. It was at Machwerk (another new place to discover) and the guys were presenting, among other things, a 3D printer - which I learned is not a machine that prints flat images in 3D. It's like a fabrication machine, sort of like a poor man's Star Trek replicator
